The Wind
Emma Tammi
2018
"Lizzy is a tough, resourceful frontierswoman settling a remote stretch of land on the 19th-century American frontier. Isolated from civilization in a desolate wilderness where the wind never stops howling, she begins to sense a sinister presence that seems to be borne of the land itself (...) When a newlywed couple arrive at a nearby homestead, their presence amplifies Lizzy's fears, setting into motion a shocking chain of events"
Estava a ficar embrutecida...)
Messiah of Evil
Gloria Katz e Willard Huyck
1974
"With influences taken from Night of the Living Dead and the works of H.P Lovecraft, the story revolves around a young woman searching for her missing artist father who had been sending her increasingly cryptic letters about esoteric oceanic rituals. She travels to Point Dune, a small town located on the West coast, and comes across a plethora of strange characters and a mysterious cult"
"This dark film explores the bizarre relationship between two adult sisters, both the daughters of a late anthropologist, residing in a dilapidated Los Angeles mansion - Ellen is a successful astronomer saddled with caring for mentally disturbed Cissy, who lives in the shadow of their father work in Africa and who likes to keep apes as pets"
"Film censor Enid takes pride in her meticulous work, guarding unsuspecting audiences from the deleterious effects of watching gore-filled decapitations and eye-gougings (...) Her sense of duty to protect is amplified by guilt over her inability to recall details of the long-ago disappearance of her sister (...) When Enid is assigned to review a disturbing film from the archive that echoes her hazy childhood memories, she begins to unravel how this eerie work might be tied to her past"
"The movie - the first directed by a 'out' black lesbian in US - follows Cheryl, played by Dunye, an aspiring black lesbian filmmaker working in a video store as she attempts to make a documentary about Faye Richards, better known as the Watermelon Woman: a gay, black 1930s actress whose roles as mammies and housemaids did not do justice to her elusive and complex life. In the process Cheryl experiences an upheaval in her own life"
2018
